Defusing Conflict During a Crisis Media Event (Two-Hour)
If there’s one thing that almost every crisis has in common is conflict. Regardless of the origin of a crisis - whether a power outage crisis has caused tens of thousands of residents to lose service, a corporate crisis has mushroomed due to allegations of financial impropriety or a health crisis has grown due to a rapidly spreading virus – conflict will eventually appear during a crisis media event. This is the case even when the crisis at hand is not the fault of any of the parties involved. Even when emergency personnel, medical professionals or government officials are trying to smooth out a crisis, there are some in the public and the media who will eventually try to fairly or unfairly assign blame. This type of conflict during a crisis media event can be handled but it must be done so in an expedient manner that acknowledges media concerns while protecting an organization’s image. Our two-hour Defusing Conflict During a Crisis Media Event training workshop is designed to help media relations professionals defuse conflict and reassure public and media concerns.

This information-packed two-hour training sessions focused on providing those tasked with communicating with the media during a crisis the ability to defuse conflict and protect media relations. Defusing Conflict During a Crisis Media Event teaches participants key training skills and time-tested training methodologies that seek to acknowledge concerns and put to use a three-step process to manage conflict. These same training skills can also be used by individuals who must deal with conflict outside of a crisis or when normal relations with members of the media may take a turn for the worse. Training exercises and interactive sessions such as press conferences are utilized to provide participants with crisis media skill practice. An interactive role play is also utilized to provide training participants with feedback from a crisis media training instructor. Various conflict and behavioral issues and the situations that might be faced during a crisis are also discussed. Time is spent working on training modules, application exercises, Q&A sessions and other training activities to reinforce the learning process in this crisis media training workshop.
