Strikes, walkouts and
other labor-related issues can wreak havoc on the
ability of the public to go about their daily routines.
In countries like France and Italy, where strikes are a
regular occurrence, thousands of travelers are sometimes
affected when airport baggage handlers, pilots, train
conductors or other transportation-related workers go on
strike. In the United States, transit strikes have been
known to shut down cities like New York City, forcing
professionals to deal with an inability to travel to or
from work or conduct their daily affairs. Oftentimes, a
labor-related crisis receives heavy media coverage.
Broadcast media, print media and other alternative media
outlets swarm all over any labor crisis that disrupts
public services or leads to losses in productivity due
to the residual effects of a strike. Our Labor Crisis
Media Training program is a highly interactive, two-day
training workshop focused on providing participants with
effective communication skills and the ability to manage
a successful interaction with the media.
The Labor Crisis Media Training workshop focuses on
empowering individuals involved in dealing with the
media during a crisis. Public relations professionals,
union representatives, executives, mediation teams and
other designated corporate or organization spokesmen
will benefit from training tools and skills to
successfully communicate with members of the media
during a labor crisis. These vital skills can be
utilized by multiple parties, regardless of their role
in dealing with the media during a labor crisis. Federal
government agencies can utilize the skills in this
training workshop to communicate with the media to
discuss mediation that may be taking place to bring an
end to a labor crisis. Labor union representatives can
use the skills to provide the media with an update on
discussions or to appease a hostile public clamoring for
answers. Press conferences, presentations and other
simulation sessions are utilized to provide participants
with crisis media skill practice. Individual coaching
sessions provide one-on-one feedback from a training
instructor. Particular labor-related issues and crisis
media messages that must be conveyed during a crisis are
also discussed. Time is spent working on training
modules, application exercises, discussion sessions and
other activities to reinforce the learning process in
this crisis media workshop.
